Park City Film Studios™ Begins Installation of Digital Motion Capture and Virtual Stage for Use with Film, Television and Game Production

Hollywood Industry Veteran Ron Fischer to Direct Development of the Stage’s Virtual Technology

PARK CITY, UT – (January 13, 2014) – Park City Film Studios announced today the start of installation of its newly-acquired digital motion capture and virtual stage, a key part of the studios’ planned technology platform. The filmmaking technology will be among the new studios’ first facilities open for client use during 2014.

“The motion capture, virtual sets, and production pre-visualization capabilities of this digital media creation platform are important to our technology strategy for Park City Film Studios,” said Greg Ericksen, chairman of Park City Film Studios. “The platform provides our clients with a comprehensive virtual filmmaking capability.”

As part of the digital stage acquisition, Ericksen also announced that entertainment industry veteran Ron Fischer has joined the studio team to direct installation and development of the virtual stage technology.

“Fischer’s long experience includes both Silicon Valley technology development and Hollywood film production, an expertise that perfectly blends with our business plan,” said Ericksen.

Fischer most recently acted as Technical Director for Universal Studios’ virtual stage.   His film credits include “Polar Express,” “Beowulf” and “Alice in Wonderland.”   He is among a group of Hollywood professionals exploring the cutting-edge of virtual filmmaking techniques including virtual sets, motion capture, Simulcam and the like.

Utah Valley University Dean of Computer Technology Michael Savoie concurs.

“The sound stage is another step forward in our ongoing effort to create the top advanced digital media program in the world,” said Savoie. “Our collaboration with Park City Film Studios means the next generation of digital artists will have a home where education, research, development and commercialization of ideas and vision can occur.”

Park City Film Studios™ is a mixed-use media creation studio and creative campus now under development in Park City, Utah. The 374,000 square foot mixed-use facility will include soundstages, production offices, and an array of studio services including the digital motion capture stage and technology.  Studio representatives are already in discussions with film companies, television shows, game producers, and commercial productions in anticipation of the studios’ first phase facilities opening later in 2014.  Groundbreaking ceremonies were held at the project site on October 8, of 2013.
